What is a tax credit transfer?

A tax credit transfer is the sale of federal or state tax credits from the entity that earned them (such as a renewable energy developer or affordable housing project) to a third-party buyer who can use them to offset their own tax liability. The Inflation Reduction Act expanded transferability for many federal energy credits, and a number of states allow transfer of state credits as well.

What types of tax credits does Fallbrook handle?

Fallbrook handles federal and state tax credit transactions including renewable energy Investment Tax Credits (ITC) and Production Tax Credits (PTC), Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits, and film production tax credits across all 50 states.

Who buys tax credits?

Tax credit buyers are typically corporations, banks, and insurance companies with significant federal or state tax liability. They purchase credits at a discount to face value to reduce their effective tax burden while supporting renewable energy, affordable housing, historic preservation, or film production projects.

How long has Fallbrook been in business?

Fallbrook Financial Services Company has been operating since 1986, with over $6 billion in tax equity investments facilitated to date. The firm is headquartered in Calabasas, California.

What is the difference between a federal and state tax credit?

Federal tax credits offset federal income tax liability and are governed by the Internal Revenue Code. State tax credits offset state tax liability and vary widely by jurisdiction in terms of eligibility, transferability, and pricing. Many projects qualify for both federal and state credits stacked together.
